The summer Wyatt turned five

Week 10

My favorite boy turns five tomorrow. I think years from now, when we look back at this time, we'll remember it as the summer Wyatt turned five. In actuality, quarantine has taken place during the Spring season, but being home together like this has really felt like a slow summer. The kind that we'd savor in the good times.

Restrictions are becoming noticeably looser. Schools are set to reopen next month (as in childcare centers and summer programs), businesses are able to open to some degree, the job market is picking up again, and you can feel the renewed energy in people. It's strange, though, because I find myself already missing this time together. Walker was furloughed in early May for 60 days - likely permanently - so it's been heavenly to have everyday feel like a weekend. A little grueling, too. A person really understands the value of contrast during a time like this.

I sincerely hope that we've done a good job keeping the stress, anxiety, and fear of this time off of Wyatt and Charleigh's radar. I hope when we think back to the summer Wyatt turned five we'll remember how he learned to ride a bike, and just how grown up it made him seem. I hope we'll remember how Charleigh learned to scooter, and how fierce she is. I hope Walker and I will remember how things were actually quite simple amidst the chaos. How we ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner together everyday and grew a garden, and planted flowers, and dug trenches for a french drain. How nearly every afternoon was spent with Wyatt circling the driveway on his bike and Charleigh racing up and down the alley from the driveway to the backyard.

These are the days.
